Cleaning St Andrew

This 15th century statue of St Andrew resides in a niche on the east elevation of the tower of the parish church in Cheddar. He required cleaning with water, with any difficult dirt being removed through the application of ammonium carbonate poultice. The stonework was repaired using carefully matched lime mortars; the whole statue was then consolidated with numerous applications of limewater and then shelter coated.
