n. a supply or source of aid or support; something resorted to in time of need.

Wells Cathedral Stonemasons was formed in 1984 by the Dean & Chapter of Wells after the completion of the restoration and conservation of the west front of Wells Cathedral. The company was seen as a means of maintaining this large body of skilled craftsmen, both for the continued maintenance of the cathedral and to provide high quality work for other important buildings. In 2000, the last big restoration project for the cathedral, the great central Tower, came to a close and the company was purchased by the management team.
The company today has developed from this base to provide a wide range of goods and services to the construction, restoration and conservation industries.
