Two prestigious projects have been commended in the Natural Stone Awards 2008. Both were in the Repair and Restoration Category, and both were bridges: the Palladian Bridge at Ranston, Dorset, and the Moat Bridge, Leeds Castle, Kent. Wells Cathedral Stonemasons were acting as Principal Stone Contractor at Ranston and as Stone Processor (with Massey Masonry as Principle Stone Contractor) at Leeds.

The judges said of Ranston: 'The quality of the original build and the patina of time have not been lost while the removal of rusting ironwork and its replacement with stainless steel has taken place. As everyone can see, this fine bridge, now in a sound condition, will continue to enhance the landscape for many years.'
