WCS win Island Contract

14 January 2008

From March, the tower St Thomas' Church, Newport on the Isle of Wight will be shrouded in scaffold, as WCS embark on a program of stonework cleaning, conservation and repair.

The Church, designed by S.W. Dawkes of Cheltenham, and built between 1844-5 is constructed from the Caen limestone from Normandy, France.

For the stonemasons, the main challenge will be the repair of the carved stonework to the two ornate clockfaces (below).

The contract is programmed to complete in mid-summer.
