Wells Cathedral Stonemasons to start at Winchester College

7th August 2006

Wells Cathedral Stonemasons will, in September, be embarking upon 14 month’s of conservation and restoration of the 14th century chapel and hall at Winchester College.

The works will involve a 3 phase contract of specialist cleaning, reparation and renewal of the stonework. It will give our Somerset stonemasons an opportunity to use Beer stone, a white limestone from Devon, of which we are the sole suppliers in the country. Other stones to be used are Chilmark from Wiltshire, and Doulting from Somerset.
