Historic bank entrance is renewed by traditional stone-carvers
Somerset stonemasons have helped one of Britain’s biggest banks, HSBC, to restore a doorway onto the City of London’s, Leadenhall Street.
Working from historic drawings, the craftsmen at Wells Cathedral Stonemasons, in Cheddar, have recreated the archway for a formerly disused door to HSBC’s Leadenhall Street building.
Master mason, and Operations Director at the Cheddar company, Ryan Brunt, took personal responsibility for carving a recreation of the key-stone, featuring the original Midland Bank identity.
"This was a matter of professional pride," said Mr Brunt. "We had a drawing of the original lettering, which I used to carve the new key-stone."
