Wells Cathedral Stone Masons — Listed on the Building Conservation Register
We’re proud to announce that Wells Cathedral Stone Masons has been accepted onto the Building Conservation Register — a new national directory dedicated to skilled tradespeople and specialist contractors working in the field of historic building conservation.
The Building Conservation Register exists to connect heritage property owners, conservation architects, and project managers with vetted professionals who have the knowledge and experience to work sensitively on listed buildings, scheduled monuments, and other historically significant structures. Being listed is not automatic — it reflects a genuine commitment to craft, materials knowledge, and best practice in the conservation sector.
For us, inclusion on the register is a recognition of the work we have carried out over many years at Wells Cathedral and across the wider Somerset and South West region. Stone masonry in a conservation context demands far more than technical skill — it requires an understanding of historic lime mortars, traditional tooling methods, appropriate stone sourcing, and the patience to let the fabric of an old building guide the approach rather than imposing modern solutions upon it.
If you are involved in a conservation project — whether a private listed building, a parish church, a country house, or a civic structure — and you need a stonemason with proven heritage credentials, we would encourage you to visit the register.
